The Creation of Helium Boy

I created the idea for helium boy in the middle of class. Like with all my ideas, a simple doodle of a character blossomed into an idea for a series. I wanted to create an animated series based off my character, so I began doing subsequent doodles on my worksheet to get a sense of the what the show would be like. Once I had an idea of what I wanted to create and post online for the world to see, I stored it in my memory and vowed to create it. Many months later, I finally did.

Why Does It Look Like That?

Of course, 2D animation is all I know, so I went into an App called FlipaClip and drew everything in a colorful and vibrant art style. I spent a few months designing the main character. I asked others for input on the color of the character, the placements of the head and body, and the material for the legs and arms. I eventually created my final design for Helium Boy, a living balloon, and I animate my show to look like a simple but detailed cartoon.

What Is It About?

Helium Boy is about a man named Chubby McNuggets who was ostracized and mistreated by society for his looks. He fails at selling Balloon animals and becomes poor, but his life turns upside down when he is transformed into a balloon. Guided by a mysterious fellow he meets, his goal is to travel to the Balloon Universe to join a society of other balloons, but he must face trials and tribulations as he goes across space.
